Prior to her arrival at Penn, Muething spent the 2011-12 year working with women's volleyball and softball at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Conn. She also spent two years working at Glasgow High School with PRO Physical Therapy in Delaware, and during the 2009-10 school year she was a part-time athletic trainer for Penn.

A New Jersey native, Muething graduated from Springfield College in 2008 with a bachelor's degree in athletic training. She earned her master's degree from the University of Virginia in 2011, where she worked as a graduate assistant and was an athletic trainer for the Cavaliers' softball team.
