The men's tennis team wrapped up what turned out to be a busy day of action for two members of the squad on Sunday at the Saint Joseph's Invitational.

Freshman Vim De Alwis and junior Andrew Berman each wound up playing multiple matches in singles, with both bidding to claim the first championship of the fall season for the Quakers. After De Alwis dispatched Roman Cacha of Army in straight sets, he very nearly took the first set off Nolan Gelman of Delaware in the championship final. But once Gelman squeaked past 7-6(6) in the first set, he turned on the jets and won the second set at love, 6-0, to win the title.

In Flight 4, Berman had to play three matches on Sunday if he hoped to win a championship, very nearly pulling it off. A quarterfinal match with Matt Colonnese of Villanova required a super-tiebreaker to decide the victor, and even that required a few extra points before Berman advanced, 13-11. Another super-tiebreaker was needed in the semifinals as he moved past Saint Joseph's representative Kevin Gates with a 10-7 win. Though Berman fell in the final to Andres Urrea from Saint Joseph's, 6-4, 6-3, there was no shame in defeat after the exhausting day he had just put in.
