LORETTO, Pa. - In a matchup of two teams that lead their respective conferences, the University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team scored first, Saint Francis (Pa.) scored last, and the result was a 1-1 tie at the Red Flash's Stokes Soccerplex. Penn is now 7-4-1 on the season, while SFU -- which stands atop the Northeast Conference -- moved to 8-4-2. The game was the non-conference finale for both squads. Freshman Elissa Berdini scored Penn's lone goal 12 minutes into the second half, firing an 18-yard shot past SFU keeper Brianna Butcher and into the top left corner of the net, her second tally of the season. Brianna Rano picked up an assist on the scoring play. Penn pressed the play after that, outshooting SFU 6-0 in the 20 minutes of overtime, but could not come up with the winner in recording its first tie since a 0-0 draw last year at Brown. The Quakers outshot the Red Flash 17-9 in the game and forced Butcher to make 10 stops. At the other end, Banks was called upon to make four saves. |
