ITA Northeast Regional Draw
(pdf)

PHILADELPHIA -
Seven members of the Penn women's tennis team will be at Army this weekend, taking on some of the best players the country has to offer at the ITA Northeast Regional Championships. Winners in singles and doubles of the event will advance to the ITA National Championships, held in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. from Nov. 8-11.

Sol Eskenazi and Sonya Latycheva will pair up in one Penn tandem, while Jaime Yapp-Shing and Stephanie Do make up the other. The main draw of singles gets going on Saturday as those four, plus Alex Ion, Katherine Jania and Jules Rodin start play with first and second round matches that will pare the field down to 32 remaining players for Sunday.

Ion has compiled a team-best record of 6-3 in singles thus far in the fall. Three wins at the Cissie Leary Invitational advanced her to the Flight B semifinals before she fell to Cornell's Lauren Frazier. Two weeks later, she made it to the finals at the Tribe Invitational at William & Mary. Do and Eskenazi also have put together impressive falls, with Do reaching the semifinals of Flight A at the Cissie Leary Invitational and Eskenazi winning the Flight A consolation bracket at the Cissie Leary after a tough first round defeat.

In doubles, Do and Yapp-Shing partnered earlier this month at the Tribe Invitational for two wins in the Flight A draw, and Eskenazi and Latycheva won two matches at the Columbia Invite in September before pulling out prior to a semifinal matchup.

If the Quakers don't advance anyone to the ITA National Championships, this event will be the end of the fall season. The spring season will get underway with a pair of home meets on January 19 at the Levy Tennis Pavilion when Penn takes on Lehigh (noon) and Saint Joseph's (4 p.m.).
