West Point, N.Y. - Penn's doubles team of Sol Eskenazi and Sonya Latycheva have continued their hot streak at the ITA Northeast Regionals. The pair - undefeated in six matches together this season - won four matches over the weekend to move into today's semifinals where they will face Lindsay Graff and Amanda Muliawan of Princeton. The other semi features teams from Boston College and Columbia.
After a couple easy opening wins against teams from Stony Brook and NJIT, things tightened up in the Round of 16. There, facing the Columbia tandem of Nicole Bartnik - the #1 seed in singles - and Crystal Leung, the Quakers were able to hang on for an 8-6 victory. Yesterday they repeated the feat with an 8-6 win over Elizabeth Epstein and Hanna Yu of Yale.
Eskenazi was also busy in singles. After receiving a first-round bye into the Round of 64, she needed a third set to take down both Ksenia Kuzmenko of NJIT and Nevena Selakovic of St. John's. In the Round of 16, her third set magic ran out, falling to Yale's Epstein, 3-6, 6-2, 2-6.
