PHILADELPHIA - The Ivy League has announced its weekly awards in men's basketball, and University of Pennsylvania freshman guard Jamal Lewis has been named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week.
this is Lewis' first Ivy honor, and he becomes the second Penn player to be recognized by the conference this season (Fran Dougherty was Player of the Week back in November).
Lewis set season/career highs in points (16), assists (4) and minutes (41) and also had five rebounds in the Quakers' 68-63 overtime loss at Wagner on Saturday. He was 6-of-8 from the field in the game, hitting all three of his three-point attempts. Prior to the contest, Lewis was averaging 4.1 points per game and his career high was eight.
Penn returns to action Wednesday night, facing Butler at the Bulldogs' famed Hinkle Fieldhouse. Tipoff is 7 p.m. in Indianapolis.
