PHILADELPHIA - The Ivy League is recognizing Black History Month by focusing on the 2013 theme of "At the Crossroads of Freedom and Equality." With that in mind, the League will be profiling 16 current student-athletes from the eight institutions - a man and a woman from each school - on IvyLeagueSports.com throughout the month of February. The series continues today with Penn Football senior captain Brandon Copeland.

Copeland was the first solo captain of the Penn Football team since 1997.
HE was a three-time Ivy League champion (2009, 2010, 2012) and three-time first-team All-Ivy (2010-12) recipient. He played in the final 39 games of his career, including 30-straight starts in his last three seasons. He finished his career with 160 tackles, 26.5 tackles for loss, 11.0 sacks, four pass breakups, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, a blocked kick, an interception, a touchdown and a safety.

The full article is available here as he reflects on her past experiences and discusses both his current and future role as a leader in the African-American community.
