PHILADELPHIA - The Ivy League has announced its weekly awards in the sports of men's basketball, and for the second straight week University of Pennsylvania freshman guard Tony Hicks has been honored as the Ivy League Rookie of the Week.
Hicks earned the honor aftre putting up a pair of 20-point games at home against Dartmouth and Harvard. On Friday night, he scored a game-high 23 points -- including one first-half stretch where he scored 14 of Penn's 16 points -- and added three rebounds and two assists as the Quakers lost to the Big Green, 69-64. One night later, he had 24 points, four rebounds, five assists and three steals as Penn defeated the Crimson, 75-72, knocking them out of first place in the Ivy standings.
Hicks has been not just Penn's leading scorer in each of the last four games; he has led all scorers. He is averaging 23.8 ppg in that span while shooting 35 of 63 (55.6 percent) from the field. For the season, Hicks is averaging 10.0 points and 2.4 rebounds per contest.
Penn has its final Ivy League weekend ahead, traveling to Brown Friday at 7 p.m. and Yale Saturday at 7. The Quakers will close out the regular season next Tuesday with Princeton at The Palestra at 7:30 p.m.
