Fortin Finishes 58th in the Nation in 500 Freestyle

INDIANAPOLIS – Penn junior Shelby Fortin opened the 2013 NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday with a time of 4:52.98 in the 500 Freestyle. Her time placed her 58th in the country in the event.

A three-time Ivy League champion in the race, Fortin set the Penn school record in the 500 Freestyle three weeks ago at the Ivy League Championships with a time of 4:41.34, a NCAA ‘B’ cut that qualified her for this weekend’s national competition.

Fortin will be back in the pool tomorrow to race in the preliminaries of the 200 Freestyle.
