PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania women's rowing team swept all four races contested with George Washington and Saint Joseph's Saturday on the Schuylkill River.
In the varsity 8 race, Penn covered the 2,000-meter course in 6:38.0. Saint Joseph's was second, in 6:50.9, while George Washington was third in 6:54.6.
In the second varsity 8 race, the Quakers rowed 6:49.4 to defeat GW by 15 seconds while Saint Joseph's was a distant third.
In the varsity 4, Penn's time of 7:54.6 was well ahead of SJU (8:10.3) and GW (8:13.7). In the third varsity eight, Penn ran two boats which both finished ahead of George Washington.
Penn is back in race action next Saturday, hosting Yale and Columbia on the Schuylkill River in the latest installment of the annual Connell Cup.
