PHILADELPHIA - For the 68th time, Penn and Cornell will vie for the Matthews-Leonard Cups when the University of Pennsylvania lightweights host the Big Red, Harvard and Mercyhurst on the Schuylkill River on Saturday.

If you are unable to come out and support the Penn lightweights in person, you can listen to the Penn broadcast at (213) 493-0217 or http://client.stretchinternet.com/client/penn.portal.

The morning starts with the third varsity at 10:10 a.m., followed by the freshmen (10:40 a.m.) and second varsity (11:10 a.m.). The cup race is at 11:40 a.m. and the fours will cap the races at noon. The Quakers will then take on Mercyhurst in the afternoon with the freshmen boats starting the regatta at 3:30 p.m. The second varsity and third varsity boats will follow at 3:50 p.m. and both the varsity will begin at 4:10 p.m.

This will be the 68th Matthews-Leonard Cup race between Cornell and Penn. Harvard has joined as a guest in recent years. Cornell has won 40 times to Penn's 27 victories. The Big Red have won every year since 1990. The last time Penn was set to host these cup races (2011) marked one of four occasions in that span where there was not a race.

With the Matthews-Leonard Cups at stake last year, the Quakers fell short against two of the top five teams in the nation. The varsity finished behind No. 5 Cornell and No. 1 Harvard at the Cayuga Inlet. The Crimson, who went on to win the national championship, won comfortably as a guest with a time of 6:02.8. On their home course, Cornell was also able to put open water between the Quakers, who finished at 6:21.9, and held on to the cup.

Penn will have some momentum heading into its first spring competition on the Schuylkill River. The Quakers swept all four races from M.I.T. last weekend on the Charles River. The varsity was jumped off the line by the Engineers, but rallied quickly to take the lead at the 1,000-meter mark and cruised to a one-length win.

A full recap of the Matthews-Leonard Cup races and the Mercyhurst dual can be found at PennAthletics.com following the conclusion of the day's events.
