Ivy League Championships information

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women’s golf team is ready for the Ivy League Championships, which will begin on Friday and continue through Sunday at Trump National Bedminster in Bedminster, N.J.

The seven teams in the event (Cornell does not field a women’s golf program) will begin play at 11:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 8 a.m. on Sunday.

Penn at the Championships
Penn finished second at this event last year; the Quakers’ only title came in 2010.

The Penn Lineup
Statistics are from the spring…
*Junior Olivia Chang (81.8 stroke average, 4 rounds) – second Ivy Championships appearance
*Sophomore Amanda Chin (75.0 average, 7 rounds) – second Ivy Championships appearance
*Senior Isabel Han (79.0 average, 7 rounds) – fourth Ivy Championships appearance
*Junior Michelle Lee (80.1 average, 7 rounds) – third Ivy Championships appearance
*Senior Allison Oakes (85.0 average, 7 rounds) – first Ivy Championships appearance

Past Honors
Han has been the runner-up at this event twice, as a freshman in 2010 and last year. Lee was a first-team All-Ivy selection as a freshman in 2011 when she tied for fifth in the field. Chin was a second-team All-Ivy recipient last year after she finished sixth. Earlier this season, Chang tied as individual medalist at the ECAC Championships in Williamsburg, Va.

Sub-70
Before this season, Han was the only player in program history to go below 70 in a round; that happened last year. This year, Chin has shot in the 60s three times: a 68 at the Yale Fall Intercollegiate; a 69 in Penn’s match with Princeton earlier this spring; and a 69 in the final round at the Hoya Invitational.

Quoting Coach Anderson
“We are really looking forward to this week at Ivies. We have had some moments of greatness this spring, but I feel like we are really ready to put it all together.”

“We finished second last year, and were in control and tied for the lead with nine holes left. We have learned from that and are looking forward to a stronger finish this year.”

“Sophomore Amanda Chin has really stepped up her game this year and been our most consistent player. With two seniors and two juniors rounding out our squad, we will have the most experienced team at Ivies. That will be huge coming down the stretch.”
