ANNAPOLIS, Md. - For the first time in 13 years, the University of Pennsylvania lightweights claimed the Callow Cup from Navy. Meanwhile, the No. 1 Penn freshmen were shorthanded on Saturday and, in a matchup of unbeatens, lost for the first time this season.

In the varsity cup race, Delaware joined Navy and Penn on the Severn River as a guest. There was not much suspense for the Callow Cup, but there was an incredible finish between Delaware and Penn. The Quakers and Blue Hens were neck-and-neck throughout the race, while the Midshipmen fell behind by open water. There was no photo at the end of the race and it was too close to call. The officials had to confer and declared Delaware the winner. The official winning time of 6:03.0, while the Quakers official finish was 6:03.3. Navy was third at 6:09.5.

With the win over Navy, it marked the first Callow Cup for the Quakers since a 13-second victory in 2000 on the Schuylkill River - the end of a four-year Penn winning streak.

Penn's freshmen entered the meet unbeaten on the year and ranked No. 1 in the nation. However, two members of the crew were held out due to injury against an undefeated Delaware boat. Penn was able to easily top Navy's freshmen and second heavyweight boat, but the Blue Hens held off the Quakers. Delaware finished with a time of 6:11.8. Penn came in at 6:17.3.

Penn's fours came in third at 7:33.9, while the second varsity was fourth at 6:29.4.

Next up are the Eastern Sprints. The league championships are set for Sunday, May 19 in Worcester, Mass.
