PRINCETON, N.J. - Junior Maalik Reynolds lost the tiebreaker for the IC4A title in the high jump, but earned silver with a season-best effort. In addition, freshman Sam Mattis finished third in the discus this weekend for the University of Pennsylvania men's track at field team at the Outdoor IC4A Championships inside Princeton's Weaver Stadium.

Behind Reynolds and Mattis, the Quakers placed 23rd as a team out of the 48 schools that scored at the meet. Penn finished with 14 points. Cornell won the meet with 68 points, followed by BYU's 56.

Reynolds posted a season-best mark on Sunday morning. On two occasions he was down to his final attempt, but cleared the bar to advance. He passed 2.17 meters on his third jump - one of three competitors to do so. That surpassed his season-best, but he went on to clear 2.20 meters (7 feet, 2 1/2 inches) - one of just two jumpers pass that height. That also bested Cornell rival Montez Blair, who topped Reynolds for the Heps title just a week ago. Neither of the final two competitors cleared 2.23 meters, but Reynolds didn't hold the advantage in the tiebreaker and finished with the silver medal.

Mattis, who won the Heptagonal title in the discus last Sunday, was nearly able to claim the IC4A championship as well. His first toss of 54.18 meters stood as his best through the first three tosses and placed him fourth heading into the finals. He jumped a spot to third with his penultimate throw. It landed at 56.05 meters (183-11 ft.) and stood as his best to earn him the bronze.

Sophomore Kyle Webster was 22nd in the 110-meter hurdles with a career-best effort of 14.64. Junior Jake Brenza just missed the finals in the shot put and finished 12th with a toss of 16.33 meters (53-07 ft.).

Next up, in each event, the top 48 times and marks in the East region qualify for the first round of the NCAA Championships. The full list of qualifiers will be announced in the upcoming week. The NCAA East Preliminary Round is scheduled for May 23-25 in Greensboro, N.C. For a complete list of the top East Region marks and times, click here.
