PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women’s tennis team will kick off its 2013-14 campaign this weekend, traveling to New York City to compete in the Columbia Invitational. The event starts Friday and continues through Sunday at the Dick Savitt Tennis Center.
Penn joins the host Lions, St. John's and Amherst in the field. The Quakers will have nine women playing at Columbia including returnees Stephanie Do, Sol Eskenazi, Alex Ion, Sonya Latycheva, Srinidhi Raghavan and Jaime Yapp-Shing. They will be joined by three newcomers in Kana Daniel, Luba Vazhenina and Brigitte Desnoes. The Columbia Invitational will feature four draws of singles competition and two draws of doubles.
“We are poised to compete in our first tournament of the season,” said head coach Sanela Kunovac, who enters her fifth year at the program’s helm. “The team is ready to play hard, and we look forward to learning how far along we are and what we need to adjust and work on as we prepare for the All-American Championships and the ITA Regionals this October. We look forward to exciting week of competition.”
