PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men’s tennis team will begin the fall portion of its season with the Princeton/Farnsworth Invitational this Friday through Sunday. The events will be played at the Lenz Tennis Center.
Penn is one of five Ivy League teams in the field along with the host Tigers, Columbia, Cornell and Yale. The Princeton/Farnsworth Invitational will also include players from Binghamton, Bucknell, Buffalo, Fairleigh Dickinson, Georgetown, Monmouth, NYIT, St. John's, and Temple.
“It is always exciting to open the season, and the Princeton tournament has historically been very strong,” said Penn's Albert G. Molloy Head Coach of Men's Tennis, David Geatz. “The tournament will provide us with a look to see exactly where we are as a team and as individual players.”
Last year, the Quakers played well at home (8-2) but struggled on the road (1-9) in finishing the season with a 9-11 overall record.
“I think we are going to be very good this year, with the best freshman class in the Ivy League,” said Coach Geatz. “Our freshmen have been great. They all work hard, are extremely talented, and they are the type of kids our alumni will be proud of.”
