PHILADELPHIA - Freshman punter and linebacker Donald Panciello earned Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors on Monday as announced by the league office. Panciello averaged 41.7 yards on his three punts and had a pair of tackles Saturday as the Quakers fell at William & Mary, 27-14.

Each of Panciello's three punts sailed farther than 40 yards and two were downed inside the 20-yard line. On a day where the offense struggled early, Panciello helped keep William & Mary buried in their own end. He did not allow a single return yard as his first punt was downed at the 11-yard line and his second was stopped at the 17-yard line. His longest punt of the day was 44 yards and was stopped just outside the 20 at the Tribe 25.

Panciello also saw significant time at linebacker for the Quakers. In his third career game, he matched a career high with two tackles on the day. He also assisted on a tackle for loss.

This marks Penn's first Ivy Rookie of the Week honor since Aaron Bailey earned the award on Nov. 8, 2010 after Penn's 52-10 win over Princeton. This is also the Red and Blue's second weekly Ivy honor in as many weeks. Senior linebacker David Park was the Defensive Player of the Week last Monday after his heroics from Penn's four-overtime win over Dartmouth.

On Saturday, Panciello and the Quakers return to league play with their first Ivy road test. The Red and Blue take on Columbia at 1:30 p.m. The game can be seen on the Ivy League Digital Network.
