PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men’s golf team will conclude the fall portion of its season this weekend, participating in the Ivy League Match Play event. This year’s event will take place from Friday to Sunday at Trump National in Bedminster, N.J.

Penn is scheduled to face Princeton in Saturday morning’s first round, with tee times from 8-8:45 off the 10th hole. The winner will move into a semifinal that afternoon against the winner of the Yale/Brown match, while the loser moves into the consolation bracket against the Yale/Brown loser. In the other half of the bracket, Harvard plays Cornell and Columbia faces Dartmouth.

All eight teams are guaranteed three matches this weekend, two on Saturday and one on Sunday. In a change from last year, this year’s matches will feature seven head-to-head matchups (last year’s event had five per match).

Penn’s lineup will feature juniors Ben Cooley and Austin Powell in the first two spots; freshmen Dane Walton and Matt Kern in the third and fourth positions; sophomore Patrick O'Leary at No. 5; senior Tomas Agrest at No. 6; and freshman Colin Wang, in his collegiate debut, at No. 7.

“As usual, we are very excited to play against our Ivy League foes this week in the match play event,” said head coach Bob Heintz. “Trump National should be an outstanding venue, and we are hoping for some intense and fun matches. Sadly, Max Marsico was not able to recover from his rib injury sufficiently to compete, so we enter the fray without our leader. Our approach will be that we are the underdogs and we are going to have fun and try to take some teams down even though we are not at full strength. Either way, it figures to be an enjoyable finish to our fall season.”
