PHILADELPHIA – Penn’s men’s soccer team will play Providence in the first round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament as announced during the 2013 NCAA Tournament Selection Show. The game will be a home contest for the Quakers at Rhodes Field on Thursday night. An official kickoff time will be announced shortly.

Penn earned automatic entry to the NCAA Tournament as the Ivy League champion. The Quakers earned the program’s eighth Ivy title on the season’s last weekend, defeating Harvard, 2-0, in Cambridge. For the Quakers, the Ancient Eight crown is the program’s first since 2008 and the first outright Ivy championship since 1972.

Penn will be making its 10th trip to the NCAA Tournament and first since 2010. Overall, Penn is 9-9 in NCAA Tournament appearances. The last time the Quakers advanced to the national tournament, the Quakers knocked off Bucknell in overtime, 1-0, in the first round before suffering a 4-0 loss to No. 4 Maryland in the second round.

Head coach Rudy Fuller will be entering his fourth NCAA Tournament (2002, 2008, 2010) and is 2-3 all-time in NCAA Tournament matches. The Quakers and Friars have never met in men's soccer.
