PHILADELPHIA – It will be another Ivy League showdown for the University of Pennsylvania men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams, as Penn will face two teams in the league. Cornell hosts Penn and Princeton this weekend at Teagle Pool in Ithaca, N.Y. The tri-meet at Cornell is the first of two the Quakers will partake in this season, with the other in January against Yale and Dartmouth.

The Red and Blue defeated the Big Red’s men’s and women’s team in decisive fashion last season, with the men winning 207-93 and the women winning 190-90. However, both teams are looking to redeem themselves from last year’s performance against the Tigers, after Princeton defeated the men 169-130 and the women 165-113.

Dating back to the 1979-80 season, the Penn women lead Cornell in the all-time series, 24-9-1. On the flip side, the Big Red edge the Penn men, 53-25, in the all-time series, but the Quakers have won two in a row, including last season’s victory.

Cornell’s women split this past weekend, defeating Dartmouth but falling to Harvard, and are 2-1 overall. The Big Red men are 1-2, with their losses coming both from Dartmouth and Harvard. For the Tigers, this weekend will mark the start of the dual meet season.

Last weekend, the Red and Blue faced their first Ivy competition in New York, where the two teams split the weekend. The men claimed their first victory against the Lions since 2009 by a 72-point margin, 185-113. Penn captured a total of 12 first-place finishes. It was a different story for the women, the next day. The Quakers took six-event wins and came up 32 points shy of Columbia, 163-134. Both teams are 1-1 on the season.
