Men's Fencing Goes Undefeated for Six Duals

PHILADELPHIA – With home advantage, the University of Pennsylvania men’s fencing team added six victories to the win column upon completion of the Philadelphia Invitational in The Coach Dave Micahnik Fencing Center today. In each of the six duals, the Quakers did not score below 21 points, and a perfect 9-0 victory occurred five times in two weapons – Foil (three) and Sabre (two).

In the first three rounds of the day, the Quakers faced off with Drew, Haverford, and Sacred Heart. Against these three teams, the Red and Blue took four 9-0 victories. One of the first of the morning was contributed in Foil against Drew by sophomore Denes Morton, sophomore Dalton Kamish, and senior Sinatrio Raharjo. Senior quad captain Michael Mills, freshman Isaac Buchwald, and senior Elliot Tusk also put up a 9-0 win in Sabre against Drew.

Another perfect score in Sabre was won against Haverford by sophomore Shaul Gordon, junior Sean Turner, and junior Steven Yang. The morning’s final highest score in a weapon was added by foilists Ira Schlosberg, quad captain Jason Chang, and sophomore Adam Elkassas against Sacred Heart.

The afternoon was similar to the morning results. Penn’s first opponent of the afternoon was NJIT, who fell to the Quakers, 25-2. Duke only won five points against the Red and Blue in the fifth round, leading Penn to its fifth win of the day, 22-5. The win over the Blue Devils was followed by a final victory over Lafayette, 23-4.

Next up for Penn is the Northwestern Invitational next Saturday February 1.
