PHILADELPHIA – For the first time in program history, the University of Pennsylvania women’s tennis team will face Akron. The Quakers will host the Zips on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. inside the Levy Tennis Pavilion.

Penn (0-2) is looking for its first win of the spring season, after dropping opening matches to Old Dominion (4-3) and Maryland (4-2). The Red and Blue have also had one match against Drexel postponed to a later date this spring.

Akron (6-0) is off to a fast start having beaten Robert Morris, West Virginia, Dayton, Wright State, Cleveland State and the University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC).  The closest matches for the Zips have been against West Virginia and UIC, winning both, 4-3. In all other matches, Akron has only surrendered one point to its opponent.

Penn’s top players have performed well, with junior Sol Eskenazi and freshman Kana Daniel both winning their first two singles matches of the spring. The duo has also played well together in doubles competition.

Once injuries begin to heal, the Quakers should start to see a strengthened lineup behind their top players.
