PHILADELPHIA – Coming off a win over neighboring Drexel last week, the University of Pennsylvania women’s tennis will head to California over spring break to face Rhode Island, Gonzaga and UC Irvine.

Recently ranked as high as 68th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, the Quakers (4-3), remain right on the cusp of the rankings heading into their spring trip. The ranking for Penn is the first for the women’s tennis program in Coach Kunovac’s coaching tenure.

Penn will face Rhode Island (4-4) in Palm Springs, to begin the trip. The Red and Blue will be facing the Rams for the first time in team competition.

The Quakers will then face Gonzaga (4-3) on Tuesday, which like Penn was also recently ranked in the ITA poll at No. 72. Penn and Gonzaga have also never squared off in team competition.

On Friday, Penn will face UC Irvine (5-5). The Anteaters have been ranked as high as 38th this spring, and were ranked 57th the week that Penn was No. 68, but have recently fallen out of the rankings. The Quakers and UC Irvine have met 14 times previously, with the Anteaters holding the series advantage 8-6.

Penn has been led this spring by junior Sol Eskenazi, playing in the No. 1 position in both doubles and singles. The Quakers have also seen key performances from seniors Stephanie Do and Jaime Yapp-Shing, along with junior Alex Ion, and freshman Kana Daniel.

While in California, the Penn men's and women's tennis teams will gather with alumni, family and friends for a dinner hosted by Penn supporters Lauri and Glen Welling W'92.
