PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women’s golf team will tee off the spring portion of its 2013-14 season this Monday and Tuesday at the Hoya Invitational. This is the ninth consecutive year of the Hoya Invitational, a 54-hole event that will see a 16-team field play 36 holes on Monday and a final 18 on Tuesday. The teams will tee off at 9 a.m. on both days.

The 16-team field includes Penn and Yale from the Ivy League along with host Georgetown as well as Fairleigh Dickinson, Hofstra, Illinois State, Lehigh, Marshall, Michigan, Navy, Nova Southeastern, Sacred Heart, Seton Hall, St. John’s, Wagner and Youngstown State. They will play at The Members Club at Four Streams and face the challenging layout designed by PGA Tour veteran Nick Price and famed golf architect Steve Smyers.

The par-72, 6,127-yard course, the home for the Georgetown University men’s and women’s programs, is set amid the rolling Maryland farmland and is one of Maryland’s finest golf facilities.

Penn’s lineup at Georgetown includes junior Amanda Chin and freshmen Marissa Kay, Sophia Chen, Isabella Rahm, and Erin Lo.

“We are excited about the first event of the spring,” said head coach Mark Anderson. “The weather has been horrible this spring for all teams in the Northeast, so it will be a challenge for everyone. Our new indoor room has been such a help to keep our team sharp. We had a strong finish to the fall season last year, and I am looking for the team to continue that momentum as we head into our spring schedule.

“We will have a quick turnaround after we return on Tuesday from Georgetown, with Seton Hall starting on Friday. This will be a big week for us to see how our top five are shaping up for Ivies.”
