PHILADELPHIA - Penn's heavyweight rowing varsity eight put together an impressive weekend to start spring competition last time out, dominating home waters on the Schuylkill River with three wins in the Pennsylvania Invitational. All three wins were over crews which were inside last week's Top-20 in the USRowing Collegiate Poll -- including a 2.4-second win over then-No. 2 Northeastern in the Burk Cup. With the weekend sweep, Penn has risen in this week's USRowing Collegiate Poll to No. 7.
The Quakers made the largest leap of any crew in the nation, moving up five spots from its No. 12 ranking last week.
The Quakers made noise on a national level with their performance against Northeaster, George Washington and Drexel and have earned one of five spots on this week's Row2K Crew of the Week ballot. Voting ends Thursday at 5 p.m.
