PHILADELPHIA – It has been awhile since the University of Pennsylvania men’s golf team has teed it up in tournament play. That ends this weekend, as the Quakers are one of 15 teams in the 28th annual Princeton Invitational. The 54-hole tournament (36 on Saturday, 18 on Sunday) will take place at Springdale Golf Club in Princeton, N.J., a par-71 course that measures 6,390 yards.

The tournament will be an excellent barometer for the Ivy League Championships later this month, as the field includes all eight Ancient Eight programs in addition to Georgetown, Navy, Rider, Rutgers, Saint Joseph's, Seton Hall, and Temple.

Teams will tee off at beginning at 7:45 a.m. on Saturday and 8 a.m. on Sunday. Yale is the four-time defending champion, winning by two shots over Temple last year. The field is the same as last year except for Rutgers, which is added. Temple's Brandon Matthews and Matt Teesdale return this year as co-defending champions.

Penn’s lineup will feature juniors Tomas Agrest, Ben Cooley and Austin Powell as well as sophomores P.J. Collier, Patrick O'Leary, and Tomas Agrest.

“Having survived the challenging weather early this spring, our team is itching to get back into competition this weekend at Princeton,” said head coach Bob Heintz. “Springdale Golf Club is an ideal venue for us as we look to find our stride in the run-up to the Ivy Championships at Baltusrol later this month. Springdale is a straightforward course which requires accuracy off the tee and imagination around the greens. We are optimistic that this event will be the start of a strong three-week stretch of golf.”
