ECAC Player of the Week
PHILADELPHIA – Senior Tory Bensen was critical to No. 15 Penn as the Quakers closed the 2014 regular season with a pair of wins to secure an eighth consecutive Ivy League championship, scoring 10 goals over a pair of games last week. On Monday, she was named Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week. On Wednesday, Bensen also picked up Corvias ECAC Player of the Week honors.
Bensen had 10 shots on goal during the week - and she scored on every one of them. On Wednesday, she struck for a career high six goals against Columbia as Penn routed the Lions, 17-4. On Saturday in Ithaca, she scored four times as the Quakers edged Cornell, 10-8, to set an Ivy record for most consecutive women’s lacrosse conference championships.
Bensen has been on a tear of late, scoring 14 of her team-leading and career-high 32 goals over her last three games. In that span, she has 16 points with five or more in all three contests.
Bensen’s selection as Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week is the sixth weekly honor earned by a Penn player this season – but the first for Offensive prowess.
The Quakers earned the No. 2 seed in the Ivy League Tournament and will open their hunt for a third ILT championship Friday against No. 3 Harvard at Princeton with a 4 p.m. start.
