PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania’s head coach of women’s soccer, Darren Ambrose, has announced the hiring of Emily Perrin to his staff as an assistant coach. Perrin replaces Kelly Keelan, who recently left to take an assistant coaching job at Georgetown University.

“We are really looking forward to Emily becoming an integral part of our staff,” said Ambrose. “She comes from a high pedigree program at the University of Virginia, where she played a leadership role. She comes from a coaching family, which has prepared her for a career in the coaching ranks. She brings tremendous energy and work ethic to the table, and holds the same values upon which our program is built. She will be a terrific asset to Penn and the women’s soccer program.”

“I am beyond thrilled to be joining the Penn coaching staff,” said Perrin. “I am excited to learn from Darren and fellow assistant Ken Masuhr, and work with the team to make this another successful season in the Ivy League and beyond!”

Perrin played a majority of her collegiate career at the University of Virginia, playing forward for the Cavaliers and serving as one of their captains in 2011 when UVA advanced to the NCAA College Cup quarterfinal round. The Cavs reached the NCAA third round in both 2009 and 2010, as well.

Perrin received the program’s Coaches Award as a senior, and also was one of six UVA student-athletes to receive the ACC Top Six Community Service Award for dedicating the highest amount of community service hours. While at Virginia, Perrin was a member of the University’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC); its Sexual Assault Peer Advocacy group; and the National Eating Disorders Council.

Perrin began her collegiate soccer career at the University of Vermont, leading the Catamounts in scoring as a freshman and earning a spot on the America East All-Rookie Team.

Since her graduation, Perrin has been a travel youth coach with the SOCA Youth program in Charlottesville, Va. She is also a coach with the Soccer Training Academy, providing individual and small group technical training as well as soccer-specific strength and conditioning training to elite youth players.

Perrin holds a ‘C’ Coaching License from the United States Soccer Federation (USSF).
