PHILADELPHIA - In addition to the incoming freshman Class of 2018, the University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team is also adding a key transfer to the roster. Kasey Chambers will join the Quakers after two seasons at Monmouth.
"Kasey is a true leader with a tremendous work eithic and will be a great addition to the program," said sixth-year head coach Mike McLaughlin, who led the Quakers to their first Ivy League title in 10 years last season.
While at Monmouth, Chambers played in all 63 games over the last two seasons and started nine. Last season, she averaged 4.7 points per game, led the Hawks in free throw percentage (.792) and finished second on the team with 2.1 assists per game. Chambers also earned MAAC All-Academic honors in 2013-14.
A native of Belmar, N.J., Chambers was a four-year letterwinner at St. Rose High School and won a state title as a senior. A two-time all-county honoree, she was named the 2011-12 Female Basketball Player of the Year by Jersey Sporting News.
Chambers will need to sit out the 2014-15 season per NCAA transfer rules. She will then have two years of eligibility remaining.
The Quakers, who will be heading to Italy with the 11 current members of the team from Aug. 11-21, announced their 2014-15 season opener at Tennessee -- one of the nation's most storied programs.
