Release:  07/21/2014

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania’s new Director of Athletics and Recreation, Dr. M. Grace Calhoun, is showing that she really is ready to dive into anything for her new job.

Late last week, Calhoun was challenged to participate in the #Chillin4Charity initiative by Ivy League Executive Director Robin Harris. As part of the challenge, Calhoun was dunked by a bucket of cold water. With Quaker sitting beside her to offer support -- and take his own dunking -- you can see the video of Calhoun’s dunking (by three of her four daughters).

In turn, Calhoun is challenging three people to take a dunking to support #Chillin4Charity: current Temple Athletics Director Kevin Clark, with whom she worked at Indiana; Penn Athletics Hall of Famer Doug Glanville, currently a baseball analyst for ESPN; and Princeton’s new Director of Athletics, Mollie Marcoux. (Quaker added a fourth person to be dunked, former Penn Athletics employee Lindy Sparby who currently works at the University of Miami.)

About #Chillin4Charity
#Chillin4Charity was started by Arizona women's basketball head coach Niya Butts and has gone viral. When someone is challenged, he or she has 48 hours to answer. If the challenged person fails to complete the challenge, the cost is a $250 donation to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. For every challenge answered, the challenger donates $50.

Challenges that are answered require a $25 donation from the challenger. Challenged players can decide to do five hours of community service if they don’t respond.

About the Kay Yow Cancer Fund
The Kay Yow Cancer Fund was officially founded on Dec. 3, 2007, from the vision of the organization’s namesake Kay Yow, former North Carolina State University head women’s basketball coach who passed away in 2009 after a long battle with cancer. Before her death, she joined forces with the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and The V Foundation for Cancer Research to form the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women’s cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause.

Since the Fund’s inception, $8 million has been raised and $3.8 million has been granted for scientific research and related programs focused on women’s cancers thanks to the generosity and continued support of our donors. However, there’s still much more progress to be made in the scientific community in regards to cancer research. Get involved today by simply making anonline donation, attending one of our national events and/or hosting a 4Kay Event in your local community.
