EUGENE, Ore. - Rising sophomore Brendan Shearn posted a top-15 finish for Team USA at the World Junior Track & Field Championships on Tuesday night at historic Hayward Field. Shearn was the top American in the 10,000 meters.

A native of Asland, Pa., Shearn capped an impressive freshman year with a 15th-place finish of 30:24.30. His American teammate, Jonathan Green of Georgetown, finished 24th with a time of 31:15.69. Africa boasted the top six finishers with Joshua Kiprui of Uganda earning the win at 28:32.86.

Shearn owns the fourth-fastest time in school history in the 10,000 meters. He finished in the top five at the Penn Relays with a collegiate-best time of 29:49.04. Also during his rookie campaign, Shearn qualified for the NCAA Championships in the event and earned a silver medal at the USA Junior Championships.

Shearn and the rest of the Quakers will be back on campus in late August for the start of preseason. The first cross country meet of 2014 is set for Sept. 12 at Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia's Fairmount Park.
