PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania will not renew the contract of women’s basketball coach Patrick Knapp when it expires at the end of the academic year.

“We are disappointed that we did not attain the levels of success we anticipated,” said Penn’s director of athletics, Steve Bilsky. “We thank Pat for his efforts, and we wish him the very best in his future endeavors.”

Knapp completed his fifth season with the Quakers Tuesday night with a 72-55 loss against Princeton. This season, Penn finished with a 9-19 record overall and went 6-8 in the Ivy League, tying for fourth place with Columbia and Cornell. Knapp had previously been the head coach at Georgetown and New Mexico State.

A search for Knapp’s successor will begin immediately.
