Congratulations!

By now you should have a numbered bracelet that holds your position in The Line for men’s basketball tickets. If you and/or your group were unable to get over to World Café Live to get a bracelet, fear not. You can still come in to the Ticket Office in Weightman Hall between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. until Monday, October 30th to reserve your spot for the overnight event. Thanks to everyone who came out to World Café Live. We had a tremendous turnout, and we’re even more enthusiastic about the upcoming season because all of you are so excited. You may still participate in The Line if you do not have a number but you will be at the end of The Line.

Perks of Being in The Line

Aside from getting first choice of Men’s Basketball season ticket seats in The Palestra, participants in The Line will get a free ticket and bus ride to see the Penn football team play at Princeton on November 4th.

All student season ticket holders will receive a FREE Red & Blue Crew t-shirt and also have first priority among students to purchase any away or postseason game tickets. If you decide not to participate in The Line, you lose these privileges.

What’s Next

You and your other group members (if any) must spend approximately 24 hours in The Palestra on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 3-4. Actually, we’re taking it easy on you this year, and you won’t be staying in the Palestra for Saturday and instead we are going to Princeton. The purpose of this traditional overnight stay is to have you and your group of friends select your seats for the upcoming season. If you have not pre-purchased tickets, you can buy them on Friday night. During this time we’ll try to keep you entertained with different activities. Remember, this is all in the name of good fun.

Note: if you did not write your down your group member’s numbers at World Café Live, please e-mail Quaker@pobox.upenn.edu with your group member’s names and numbers.

What to Bring

For Friday: Space is limited! Students are encouraged to bring sleeping bags and pillows. Please wear comfortable clothes and non-marking sneakers. If you plan on going to the Sprint Football game, dress warmly. Once in The Line, students can not leave to get additional blankets, food, clothes, etc. Bring all your stuff when you check in. You may have food delivered to The Palestra. For what it’s worth The Palestra is a wireless facility, but the outlets for power are limited. Also, uniforms are strongly encouraged for teams competing in dodge ball. Creativity is appreciated. When you are excused on Saturday morning, remember to all of your personal items with you. You will not be back in The Palestra.

BRING: blankets, pillows, air mattress or sleeping bag, school work, comfortable clothes, toiletries, payment for tickets, ID, snacks

DO NOT BRING: any kind of furniture, large supplies, alcohol, bad attitude

For Saturday: Be sure to check the weather when you are briefly released on Saturday morning and dress appropriately. It could be cold, rainy, sunny, snowy, etc. and you don’t want to have to buy a Princeton sweatshirt to stay warm.

Picking Your Seats

All throughout the night, groups will be called out to go down to the media room behind the team bench area on the floor of The Palestra to actually pick your seats. You will pick in the order of your group, which was determined at World Café Live.

If you want to sit with some friends in another group, you can pick your seats next to each other. However, you have to pick at the highest group number. (For instance, if you are in group #23 and you want to sit with your friends in group #29, you would forfeit your opportunity to pick after group #22 picks, and instead your group #23 will pick along with group #29 when its group #29’s turn to pick seats.)

Cash, check, MasterCard, and Visa are all acceptable forms of payment. Each student is entitled to purchase one season ticket. If you are a freshman and you aren’t sure if your parents bought you tickets, we’ll have a list.

Ticket Prices

Chairback Student Season Ticket - $140 + $4 processing fee (only 89 seats are available)

Reserved Student Season Ticket - $80 + $4 processing fee

Line Leaders

There are seven Line Leaders who are experienced, hard core Penn Basketball fans. The Line Leaders are here to guide you through this Penn tradition, answer questions, make sure your group is together and to enforce the Rules of The Line. Each Line group will be assigned a Line Leader to monitor them when you check in on Friday at 5:30 p.m. They’ll help you get situated before we get started with the Women’s Volleyball game at 7 p.m.

Random Checks

At any time, a random line check can be made by the Line Leaders to ensure attendance in The Line. If every team member is not in Line, the entire team goes to the back end of The Line and you pick your seats last. If you leave or are sent home for breaking the rules, you can still buy basketball tickets and attend all the games. You will just forfeit your group’s position in Line and have your seats selected for you by the Ticket Office next week.

Dodge Ball

You can sign up in teams of 8 players for Friday night’s tournament. Check in with your Line Leader to register your team. Official ADAA rules apply.

Penn Policies

All university policies relating to student conduct will apply and will be strictly enforced. No drugs or alcohol will be permitted in The Line, and those who are under the influence of banned substances will not be permitted in The Line. Students who do not adhere to these policies will be removed from The Palestra and their place (and their team’s) place in The Line.

Smoking is only permitted outside the front doors of The Palestra where security can watch the students.

The trip to Princeton is considered part of The Line and the above rules and all other University of Pennsylvania rules are in effect.

No student is permitted access to the locker rooms, class of ‘71 and media rooms.  Students found in these areas are trespassing and are subject to discipline.

Basic Safety

No one is allowed to leave after 10 p.m. unless it is a MEDICAL EMERGENCY. For your safety, security guards will monitor the area at all times and The Line will be housed inside The Palestra. Safety is our primary concern, so please do not hesitate to call for assistance if you feel it is necessary. Emergency numbers are as follows:

Emergency – On-campus assistance                  511 (fire, police, or medical)

Emergency – Philadelphia assistance                 911 (fire, police, or medical)
