PHILADELPHIA - Freshman Alek Torgersen led a furious comeback and threw two late fourth-quarter touchdowns for the University of Pennsylvania football team on Saturday. For his efforts, Torgersen was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week by the league office on Monday.

In Penn's season finale, Torgersen came into the game with Penn trailing by 21 points and a little more than eight minutes remaining. The true freshman appeared to lead the Quakers all the way back, but the potential game-tying extra point was blocked and the Red and Blue fell to Cornell, 42-41.

Torgersen threw for 109 yards in that short span on 6-of-10 passing, including his first two career touchdowns. The Huntington Beach, Calif., native also ran for seven yards to combine for 116 yards of offense in about a half quarter of play. With the Quakers down three touchdowns, he led Penn 57 yards in just three plays to start the late comeback. The drive was capped by a 45-yard touchdown pass to sophomore Cameron Countryman - the first collegiate score for both players. On Penn's next possession, Torgersen took the team 75 yards, accounting for all 75 yards (68 passing, 7 rushing), in just 1:56 to get the Quakers within seven.

This is the first career Ivy honor for Torgersen and the fourth this year for the Quakers. Senior Evan Jackson was the Defensive Player of the week after Penn's victory at Columbia on Oct. 19. Freshman Donald Panciello was the Rookie of the Week for his punting efforts at William & Mary on Oct. 12, and senior David Park was the Defensive Player of the Week following his dramatic role in Penn's four-overtime win in the Ivy opener against Dartmouth on Oct. 5.
