CFPA Specialists Watch Lists

PHILADELPHIA - Rising junior Eric Fiore was named to the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) Kick Returners Watch List on Monday. He was one of 34 players named to the watch list for the award given to the top individual kick returner in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).

Fiore was second in the Ivy League in kick return average last season (24.4). He is joined on the watch list with Princeton's Anthony Gaffney, who led the Ancient Eight in that category last season (25.9). Fiore's longest kick return in 2012 came against Gaffney and the Tigers as his 53-yard scamper set up a go-ahead touchdown. He finished the year with 342 yards on 14 returns. Fiore also led the 2012 Ivy League champions with 51 punt return yards and finished fifth on the team with 461 all-purpose ayrds.

Fiore's classmate Dan Davis also earned the preseason honor from CFPA. Davis was the only Ivy League player named to the Linebacker Watch List. Davis was named All-Ivy as a sophomore and led Penn and finished fourth in the Ivies with 13.5 tackles for loss, including 2.0 sacks.

"Congratulations to Eric Fiore on joining teammate Daniel Davis on the 2013 CFPA Watch List," said CFPA Executive Director Brad Smith. "Fiore's return abilities played a pivotal role in Penn's 2012 Ivy League championship. In 2013, Fiore will be one of the nation's top kickoff return specialists to watch."

College Football Performance Awards, the largest awards organization in D-I college football, selects players exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams. All players are eligible for awards at their respective positions; players are not preemptively eliminated from consideration.

The full list of 2013 recipients, including the 2013 CFPA FCS Awards, will be announced on Jan. 8, 2014.

Davis, Fiore and the Quakers will begin their defense of the Ivy title when they open the 2013 campaign against Lafayette on Sept. 21 at historic Franklin Field.
