PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania’s Division of Recreation and Intercollegiate Athletics (DRIA) will celebrate the successful conclusion of its $125 million campaign at Homecoming, which this year runs from November 7-9.

“We raised $125 million, and we are going to celebrate this achievement with our friends and supporters,” said Steven J. Bilsky W’71, Penn’s Director of Athletics and architect of the campaign.

The campaign raised more than $70 million for facility enhancements that has transformed the East end of Penn’s campus. Additionally, monies were raised to endow eight head coaching positions plus $46 million in annual funds to support the University’s varsity intercollegiate programs.

The kickoff event is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 7, and will be a private dinner in The Palestra for leadership donors and University Trustees. The evening will include a performance by The Midtown Men (from the original cast of Jersey Boys).

Intercollegiate competition begins Friday, with the women’s soccer team taking on Princeton on Rhodes Field at 6 p.m. On Saturday, field hockey, football and men soccer all host the Tigers, while women’s basketball opens its 2013-14 season against St. Francis (N.Y.). Intercollegiate competition will conclude that evening when men’s basketball opens its 2013-14 campaign against Big 5 rival Temple at The Palestra. That game will be followed by a performance from legendary entertainer Bill Cosby.

Also during the weekend, DRIA will dedicate the new Ellen Vagelos C’90 Field Hockey Field, the Coach David Micahnik Fencing Center, and the Nalitt Family Gymnastic Center. Later this year, DRIA will dedicate the Clay and Lynn Hamlin Tennis Center; the Coach Ted A. Nash Land-Rowing Training Facility; and the John R. Rockwell Gymnasium in Hutchinson Gym. (Several other projects such as the George A. Weiss Pavilion, the Shoemaker Green, James “Ace” Adams Field at Penn Park, and the Dunning-Cohen Championship Field and Air Structure have been dedicated during the course of the Campaign.)
