2011 Penn Football Schedule

PHILADELPHIA - For the University of Pennsylvania football faithful, there will be some changes to the non-conference schedule in 2011. A home date with Fordham makes its way into the fray as does a road game at Franklin Field. The 2011 Homecoming Game will be Nov. 5 when the Red and Blue take on arch rival Princeton.

In addition to the seven Ivy League contests, the back-to-back defending Ivy League champions will once again add Lafayette as well as crosstown-rival Villanova to the slate. However, the Quakers will also play Fordham for the first time in 12 years and will be the visitors at Franklin Field against the Wildcats.

The Quakers won their Ivy-record 12th outright league title last season in finishing 9-1 overall and an unblemished 7-0 in Ivy play. They will open the year in the midst of an eight-game winning streak overall and a 15-game conference winning streak. The Ivy opponents visiting Franklin Field in 2011 are Yale, Princeton and Cornell, while the Red and Blue travel to Dartmouth, Columbia, Brown and Harvard.

On Sept. 17, Penn will open the season at home for the fifth straight year, hosting Lafayette. The Leopards and Quakers have a budding rivalry. This will be the sixth straight season in which the two teams have met with the last four matchups decided by a total of 16 points.  

A week later, the Schuylkill Showdown resumes with the annual tilt against Philadelphia-rival Villanova. The 16th all-time meeting between the schools were look much like the 2005 edition where the Wildcats were the home team at Franklin Field.

Penn will then leave West Philadelphia for the first time on Oct. 1 to start its Ivy League campaign against Dartmouth. After traveling to Hanover, N.H. to face off against the Big Green, the Red and Blue will take on Fordham for the first time since the 1999 season. The Quakers beat the Rams in convincing fashion, 35-18, that year. Penn has won all four meetings with Fordham.

The Ivy League schedule resumes when Penn goes on the road to Columbia. Then, Penn plays Yale (Oct. 22), Brown (Oct. 29), Princeton (Nov. 5) and Harvard (Nov. 12) in four consecutive weeks. The Ivy title is usually decided during that month-long grind. Either Penn, or one of those teams, has won every single Ivy League championship since 1997. 

The Red and Blue play two of those games on the road - at Brown and at Harvard. The Quakers will host arch-rival Princeton on Homecoming, and in the season finale two weeks later, welcome their oldest rival, Cornell, for the 118th all-time meeting with the Big Red.
