PHILADELPHIA - For the second straight year, senior linebacker Dan Davis was named to the preseason watch list for the CFPA Linebacker Award, given to the top individual linebacker in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).
"Congratulations to Penn's Dan Davis on once again earning a spot on the CFPA Watch List," said CFPA Executive Director Brad Smith. "Davis will be one of the top linebackers to watch in 2014."
Davis, who was an All-Ivy first-team pick for the second straight year, led the Quakers with a career-high 64 tackles last season, including a team-best 10.5 for loss and 1.5 sacks.
The initial watch list includes 38 linebackers, vying for the top linebacker award in the FCS. Davis is one of three Ivy Leaguers to make the list.
The goal of College Football Performance Awards is to provide the most scientifically rigorous conferments in college football. Recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams. Twenty-eight CFPA winners have been first-round NFL Draft selections, including Jadeveon Clowney, who was the first overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.
The full list of 2014 CFPA winners will be announced Jan. 14, 2015.
The Quakers will continue their quest for a league record-tying 17th Ivy title with preseason practice in August and the season opener at Jacksonville on Sept. 20.
