The team's lone senior, Johnson was an integral part of the Quakers' success last season, playing in all 28 matches and starting 15 as a defensive specialist. She finished fourth on the team with 2.27 digs per set (209) and was also fourth in service aces (8) and assists (17). Johnson also had a career-best 24 digs against Villanova in last year's Big 5 Tournament.
Just a junior, Cobbinah came on strong late in the season, highlighted by her performance against Ohio in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Against the nation's fourth-ranked blocking defense, the outside hitter had five kills and just two errors while playing all three sets. Cobbinah finished the season with 18 kills and four digs in 11 matches.
Both members of Penn's back-to-back Ivy League championships and NCAA tournament appearances in 2009 and 2010, the two captains will lead a relatively young squad that features seven juniors and six sophomores. Despite the youth, the team brings back seven players who played in at least 22 matches last season and a pair of All-Ivy selections in Lauren Martin and Amanda Pacheco. Carr also welcomes seven incoming freshmen, a few of whom will be expected to contribute immediately.
