Official Ivy League APR release PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania and Ivy League student-athletes as a whole again have the nation's best records in the annual NCAA Division I Academic Progress Report (APR) ratings for enrollment from the 2007-08 through 2010-11 academic years. For the second year in a row, a total of 17 Penn teams received Public Recognition Awards from the NCAA. The 17 programs tied Penn with Notre Dame for fourth nationally, behind only fellow Ivy institutions Yale (23), Brown (22) and Dartmouth (21). The Ivy League's 131 teams outdistanced all other Division I conferences. The Patriot League was second with 80 teams honored followed by the Big East Conference third (70), the Atlantic 10 Conference fourth (56) and the Atlantic Coast Conference fifth (50). The Ivy League was the only Division I conference to have commendations for all (eight) of its football teams. The NCAA "commends" teams that have APR scores in the top 10 percent within their sport, with the minimum necessary score ranging from 975 to a perfect mark of 1000 depending on the range of team scores nationwide within that sport. Now in its eighth year, the APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester or quarter by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete. The APR includes eligibility, retention, and graduation in the calculation and provides a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport. Full APR scores for all teams, including access to postseason play and penalties for low-performing teams, will be released June 20. Penn's Commended Sports |
