Men's Basketball Hosts Lafayette Tuesday Night

PHILADELPHIA - The Penn men's basketball team hosts Lafayette in its final non-conference test, before opening the Ivy League campaign against preseason favorite Princeton on Saturday. Tuesday night's game is one of just two that Penn will play in The Palestra over a 54-day span (also Jan. 19 against Saint Joseph's).

The Penn-Lafayette Series
*The Quakers and the Leopards have met 45 times, with Penn dominating the series 40-5 including wins each of the last two seasons. That said, Lafayette has won two times in the last five meetings.

*This is one of the most consistent non-conference series Penn has played over the last few decades. In fact, since the 1985-86 season these two teams have NOT played in only two seasons (1987-88 and 2006-07).

*Penn is 160-51 against programs that currently compete in the Patriot League, including a 73-66 loss at Lehigh earlier this season.

Penn head coach Jerome Allen will go up against one of his coaching mentors Tuesday night; longtime Lafayette head coach Fran O'Hanlon was an assistant under Fran Dunphy here at Penn during the time that Coach Allen was wearing the Red and Blue as a player.

Countdown to 1,700
Penn has won 1,699 games as a program; with one more, the Quakers will become the 11th NCAA Division I program to reach 1,700 wins. (Indiana recently became the 10th, scoring its 1,700th win on December 19 against Mount St. Mary's.)

Home is Where the Wins Are
Penn entered the 2012-13 season with 803 wins at The Palestra, which opened in 1927. In an informal survey of the other NCAA Division I programs, only Washington (921 wins at Hec Edmundson Pavilion) and Butler (812 wins at Hinkle Fieldhouse) boast more wins in their current home than the Quakers. The Edmundson Pavilion was opened in 1927, while the Bulldogs opened Hinkle in 1928.

*Penn played for the third straight game without leading scorer Fran Dougherty, who is out due to mononucleosis. (He is not expected to play on Tuesday night.)

*Penn had 43 rebounds, a team high in the Jerome Allen coaching era, took a season-high 61 shots, and tied a season high with four blocked shots.

*Penn's bench players outscored the starters, 36-21, the third time this season the bench outscored the starters.

*Freshman Tony Hicks had 14 points, a season/career high, for his second-straight double-figure scoring game and fourth this season.

*Hicks led Penn in scoring for the second time this season (also at Penn State).

*Junior Miles Cartwright had 11 points, his fourth straight double-digit scoring game and team-leading ninth this season, and tied a career high with two blocked shots.

*Cartwright went 4-of-4 at the foul line; he has made 10 in a row, 31 of his last 33, and is 53-of-58 (.914) over his last 10 contests.

*Junior Dau Jok had a season/career high in rebounds (11) and became the third different Penn player this season to have a double-figure rebound total in a game (also Dougherty and sophomore Greg Louis); he also tied a season/career high with eight points.

*Jok led Penn in boards, the fifth different player to lead them in rebounding in a game this season.

*Freshman Darien Nelson-Henry set season/career highs in points (8) and rebounds (8), and has now scored 27 points in the last four games (6.8 ppg).

*Sophomore Camryn Crocker set a season/career high in assists (6).

*Sophomore Henry Brooks had eight points, giving him 28 points in the last three games (9.3 ppg).
