PHILADELPHIA - Freshman Katy Allen was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week as announced by the league office Monday. She averaged 13.0 points this week and led the University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team with a career-high 17 points and four threes in an OT win at Dartmouth Saturday.
Allen helped the Quakers snap a four-game slide with arguably the biggest shot of the game at Dartmouth. Her three-pointer as the shot clock expired midway through the extra session broke a 58-58 tie and gave Penn the lead for good. It was her fourth three-pointer of the game - a career high.
For the week, the Waukesha, Wis., native averaged 13.0 points, 3.0 rebounds. 1.5 steals and 1.0 assists as Penn split two Ivy road contests. Allen was excellent from the field at 52.6 percent (10-of-19) and phenomenal from three-point range at 55.6 percent (5-of-8).
Against Harvard, Allen had nine points, two rebounds, an assist and a steal, and was 4-of-8 from the field. But she was even better against Dartmouth. She led the way on 6-of-11 shooting, including a career-best 4-of-6 from three-point range. She added four rebounds and two steals and the decisive three-pointer.
Allen is the second Penn player to earn this honor this season. Freshman Kara Bonenberger is a four-time recipient of the award.
Allen and the Quakers finish a four-game Ivy road trip this weekend with games at Cornell (Friday) and Columbia (Saturday). Both tip off at 7 p.m.
