Release:  12/04/2013

PHILADELPHIA - For the fourth straight year, the University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team and its fans will raise money through the Charge for a Cure program. Money is raised with every charge the Quakers take during the 2013-14 season.

In the program's first three years, 146 gracious donors joined the cause and helped the Quakers raise nearly $9,000. In each of the last two seasons, the Quakers have taken 45 charges. Combined with other initiatives, including the Pink Zone/Play 4 Kay game and the 'Pack the House' Challenge, the Quakers have raised more than $15,000 during the five-year tenure of head coach Mike McLaughlin.

---------------------

How it works: Each year, the players pick the causes that are important and impactful to them. At the end of each month, the coaching staff will total the number of offensive charges the Quakers have taken as a team. Fans can pledge a donation per offensive charge, typically $1 per charge. Money is collected at the end of the year, and dispersed to each foundation based on the money raised during the foundation's corresponding month.

---------------------

Who benefits:
November/December (7 games)

January (9 games) -

February (8 games) -

March (4 games) - The Michael J. Fox Foundation (Parkinson’s Disease)

---------------------

How to join: Please join the women's basketball team as it looks to make a difference in the lives of the people that these diseases affect every day. To join the team in Charge for a Cure, contact Eric Dolan at erdolan@upenn.edu with your pledge or any questions.
