NEWARK, N.J. - The University of Pennsylvania women’s soccer team got a first-half goal from Erin Mikolai and a second-half goal from Laura Oliver, and that was enough as the Quakers defeated NJIT, 2-0, Tuesday night at Lubetkin Field.
Mikolai’s goal came just after the half-hour mark, as Clara Midgley crossed the ball from the right side and Mikolai headed it home.
Mikolai assisted Oliver’s goal in the 51st minute, the goal coming off a shot from senior at the top of the box.
Penn outshot NJIT 10-3, and forced Highlander goalkeeper Samantha Bersett to make six saves. Kalijah Terilli went the distance in the Penn goal and was not called upon to make a stop as she collected the Quakers’ sixth straight shutout and 11th in 14 matches this season. (In minutes, Penn's shutout streak is 621:48.)
Penn improved to 10-1-3 this season, and reached double digits in wins for the second time in three years, the third time in five seasons, and the fourth time in seven seasons. NJIT fell to 6-10 with the loss.
Penn returns to Ivy League play on Saturday, hosting Yale on Rhodes Field at 5 p.m. That game will be the first half of a doubleheader at Rhodes Field, as the men host the Bulldogs at approximately 7:30 p.m.
