PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team gathered on Monday evening with the hope that its one-loss campaign this season would be enough to impress the NCAA Championship selection committee. It did not, as the Quakers sadly did not see their name come up on the 64-team bracket during the NCAA's selection show.
So Penn's season ends at 12-1-4 overall -- including a nine-match unbeaten streak to end the campaign -- and the Quakers were second in the Ivy League at 5-1-1.
"As we followed results from around the country this weekend, we knew as we met today that we might be on the outside looking in," said Head Coach Darren Ambrose. "Some things did not go our way, and of course now that the field has been announced we are probably among the teams that are wondering why some others got in ahead of us. It is unfortunate, and I feel awful for our women, but I don't want it to tarnish the great season that we had."
