PHILADELPHIA - Both the Penn men's and women's cross country teams were named All-Academic on Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
In addition to the Scholar Teams of the Year - Oregon (women) and Oklahoma State (men) - the USTFCCCA also announced those men's and women’s teams who earned 2012 Division I All-Academic Cross Country status. To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better and have started at least five runners at their respective NCAA regional championship.
On the women's side, a total of 200 institutions represent 30 conferences that compose the group. Among conferences, the Big East had the most squads make the list with 12. The Big Ten and Conference USA followed with 11. Seven of the eight Ivy teams made the list.
On the men's side, a total of 145 institutions represent 30 conferences that compose the group. The Big East Conference had the most squads make the list with nine. The Big Ten followed with eight. Six of the eight Ivy teams made the men's list.
