PHILADELPHIA - A trip across the Keystone State awaits the University of Pennsylvania men's and women's track and field teams this weekend. The Quakers will compete at Penn State's annual Sykes and Sabock Challenge Cup on Friday and Saturday.

A few field events, including the weight throw and long jump, will take place on Friday as well as several sprints and distance events. Saturday's action will begin at 11 a.m. with the men's pole vault and shot put, while the track events begin at noon with the 2,000-meter steeplechase. The meet is set to conclude wit hthe 4x400-meter relay at 3:40 p.m.

Competing teams include Binghamton, Buffalo, Connecticut, James Madison, Liberty, Penn State, Princeton, and UNC-Wilmington. All events will take place on the Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track at the Indoor Multi-Sport Facility.

At this meet last season, the men placed seventh, while the women were ninth. Michael Kiley and Brendan Smith finished first and second, respectively, and were well ahead of the rest of the field in the men's 2,000-meter steeplechase. Kiley finished in 5:47.33 and his teammate was just three seconds behind. Chelsea Delaney scored in the women's mile, while Kersie Jhabvala scored for the Quakers in the women's 3,000 meters.

Last week at the Armory, several Quakers moved their way up the school record book, while Maalik Reynolds and Timothy Hamlett posted victories for the men. For the women, Lydia Ali posted a personal best - and the sixth-best time in school history - in the 200 meters with her finish of 25.07. Sophomore Elyssa Gensib also moved into the school record book. She was the runner-up in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:48.74. That's the fastest time for a Quaker in the event since 2010 and ninth-best all-time.

A full recap will be available at PennAthletics.com shortly after the conclusion of the day's events.
