Track & Field Leads Both Multis at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA – After the first day of the multi-events to start the 120th Penn Relays, the host program is in line for a pair of wins as the University of Pennsylvania leads both the collegiate heptathlon and decathlon.

Penn freshman Noel Jancewicz holds a slim lead over Claudette Day of Northern Illinois through four events in the heptathlon, her 3,090 points just 14 points of second-place Day who finished Day One with 3,076. Day’s teammate, Logan Tillmon is third overall with 2,828 points.

Penn sophomore Thomas Pitt has built a 53-point lead through five events in the college men’s decathlon. He finished Day One with 3,859 points to sit ahead of Southern Connecticut State’s Nick Lebron who has 3,806 points through five events. A pair of Cornell competitors sit third and fourth, respectively, in Mike Rabbit (3,596 points) and Austin Jamerson (3,564 points). Pitt finished no lower than third in the five events contested on Day One, winning the shot put (13.09m) and high jump (2.10m).

Of the eight competitors entered in the men's decathlon, the top four are separated by 295 points with five events remaining.

The heptathlon and decathlon will conclude on Wednesday as the first championships of the 2014 Penn Relays are awarded.
