STILLWATER, Okla. - This weekend, Wharton graduate Joshua Harris '86 will be inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame's Hall of Outstanding Americans wing.

According to the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, "The Hall of Outstanding Americans demonstrates wrestling's pride in those who have used the disciplines of the sport to launch notable careers in other walks of life, such as science and technology, business and industry, government and the military, and the arts and humanities. New classes are inducted annually."

Previous inductees into the Hall of Outstanding Americans include: Penn Athletics Hall of Famer David Pottruck C'70, WG '72, United States Presidents George Washington, Abraham Lincoln,Theodore Roosevelt and William Taft and actors Kirk Douglas and Billy Baldwin. Joshua Harris will be the 48th inductee into the Hall of Outstanding Americans.

A third member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame with Penn connections is Richard DiBattista, a two-time NCAA champion who was inducted in 1995 into the Distinguished Member wing.

Joshua Harris may spend a significant amount of time with basketball, but his roots are firmly planted in wrestling.

He began wrestling in the seventh grade for Bethesda Boys Club in Maryland and placed third in the high school state championships. He graduated summa cum laude and Beta Gamma Sigma from Wharton with a concentration in Economics and competed for the Quakers on the wrestling mats during his time in University City. After graduating from Penn,  Harris went on to receive his MBA from the Harvard Business School, where he graduated as a Baker and Loeb Scholar.

Harris is co-founder and Chief Investment Officer of Apollo Global Management (AGM), which he co-founded in 1990. As of June 30, 2012, AGM had total assets under management of $105 billion, with a team of 616 employees located in 10 offices around the world. Prior to founding AGM in 1990, Harris was a member of the Mergers and Acquisitions Group of Drexel Burnham Lambert, Inc.

He serves on the boards of directors of Apollo Global Management, LLC; Berry Plastics Group Inc.; LyondellBasell Industries; CEVA Group Plc; Momentive Performance Materials; EP Energy; and Constellium.

In October 2011, Harris and his partners purchased the Philadelphia 76ers from Comcast-Spectacor. Today, he serves as Managing Owner and as the team’s Governor on the NBA Board of Governors. He also serves on the Board of Trustees of the United States Olympic Committee.

Harris is a member of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York Investors Advisory Committee on Financial Markets, and he is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He serves as Chairman of the Department of Medicine Advisory Board for the Mount Sinai Medical Center and is on the Board of Trustees of the Mount Sinai Medical Center. He is also a member of the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton Undergraduate Executive Board, and is on the Board of Trustees for the Allen-Stevenson School and Harvard Business School.
