PHILADELPHIA - The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) has announced its All-America teams for the 2013 men's lacrosse season, and University of Pennsylvania senior defenseman Anthony Santomo was on the list Thursday morning with honorable mention recognition.
Santomo is the first Penn player to earn All-America honors since Brett Hughes was an honorable mention recipient in 2011. In addition, Santomo was named a USILA Scholar All-America earlier this week, and on Friday he will play in the USILA Division I/II North-South All-Star Game at Cabrini College in Radnor, Pa.
Santomo was Penn's shutdown defender this year, often matching up with the opponent's top offensive threat. As a team, Penn ended the year as the national leader in goals-against average (7.38). Santomo was recently a unanimous selection as first-team All-Ivy by the Ancient Eight coaches. He led Penn with 27 caused turnovers, and his 2.08 CTs per game average was 10th nationally. Santomo also had 23 ground balls. The senior also scored his first collegiate goals this season, against Duke and Brown.
